Final press release
FURTHER RISE IN VISITOR NUMBERS AT EXPO FERROVIARIA AND INTERTUNNEL 2012
The number of rail and tunnel industry professionals visiting this year’s EXPO Ferroviaria and INTERtunnel exhibitions in Turin rose again compared with the previous event in 2010. A total of 7,600 visitors from 48 countries attended the two events, which took place at the city’s Lingotto Fiere exhibition centre from 27 to 29 March. And while Italy was very strongly represented, Brazil, Canada, China, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Turkey and USA are also among the countries from which visitors came.
The wide range of managers, engineers and buyers attending EXPO Ferroviaria 2012 reflected the vital role that Italy’s only dedicated rail industry exhibition plays in showcasing the latest products and technologies. Visitors included representatives of Italy’s rail infrastructure authority RFI, and of the national train operator Trenitalia as well as from principal regional railways such as Trenord and private operators like NTV and Veolia Transdev.
Also attending were visitors from foreign railways, including SBB Cargo, FFS Infrastructure, SNCF, DB Schenker – plus a delegation from Vietnamese Railways. Representatives of leading supplier companies were also significant for exhibitors. Among visitors from this sector were Balfour Beatty Rail, Italferr and Lucchini.
Organisations visiting INTERtunnel 2012 included Italian national highways agency ANAS, representatives of the LTF Lyon Turin Ferroviaire and BBT Brenner Base Tunnel projects, plus senior staff from supplier companies such as Atlas Copco, CIPA and Impregilo.
The total number of exhibitors at the combined event was 371 – leading suppliers in both sectors presenting the very latest products and systems. And around 80 companies have already booked a stand for the next editions in 2014, showing the high level of satisfaction amongst exhibitors.
Taking part in the formal opening of the two shows were senior figures from Italy’s transport industry and political establishment. They included Mr Piero Fassino, Mayor of Turin, Mr Mauro Moretti, CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, Ms Barbara Bonino, Transport, Infrastructure, Mobility and Logistics Councillor, Piedmont Region, Giancarlo Guiati, Sole Administrator, Infra. To, and Francesco Brizio, Chairman of GTT Turin Transport Group.
Playing a key role in the success of the combined event were its exhibition partners. The Italian College of Railway Engineers (CIFI) and the Italian Tunnelling Society both organised conferences that drew appreciative audiences. There was also a workshop organised by the Italian Association for Trenchless Technology (IATT) and a seminar by the Italian Association for Special Foundations (AIF) and the Italian Association for Geognostic Research (ANISIG). In addition, technical site visits were arranged by Alstom to its Savigliano train building plant and by GTT to its facilities in Turin, including its showcase automated metro system.
The next shows in this series – the sixth EXPO Ferroviaria and the fifth INTERtunel will take place in March 2014.
